Alice confides in Jennie that her ex-husband Josh (Stephen Moyer) thinks she is being overemotional by selling their house. Alice falls asleep and wakes up in the middle of the night. She notices that Jennie's car is in the driveway. So, Alice looks for Jennie in the house, only to find her corpse in the garage with her throat slashed. As she screams, someone emerges from a crawlspace behind Alice and grabs her. The mother-and-son duo shrug off every strange happening, from items disappearing and the pilot light going out to doors slamming very loudly, perhaps only so that they can meet their grisly fate in the end.

When she puts her eye up to a hole in the crawlspace door, Alice stabs Lila with her knife. The two struggle, but Alice overpowers the severely wounded Lila. That night, Alice has some friends over for dinner, including Jennie (Anna Paquin).

Evil Dead is, of course, Raimi’s horror franchise going back to 1981’s same-name film starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, a combatant of various supernatural entities. That pic grew into a trilogy, also spurring the creation of Starz’s Ash vs. Evil Dead and a number of other projects. The most recent, standalone film Evil Dead Rise from writer-director Lee Cronin, grossed more than $147M worldwide last year when it hit theaters via Warner Bros, after launching at SXSW. In their new home, they meet their strange neighbor, Martha, and a friendly store clerk, Chris. The Open House is a 2018 horror movie written and directed by Suzanne Coote and Matt Angel. In the story, a mom and her son face scary and unsettling things after moving to a new house. Logan contacts Chris, who agrees to spend the night on the couch. In the middle of the night, Chris goes missing, and Logan finds him with his throat slashed in his car.
Is there a basement where the broken boiler resides? Is one character cynical whilst the other is suspicious? It is offensive that they feel their audiences are so easily pleased.
Storyline
In THE OPEN HOUSE, Logan (Dylan Minnette) is an aspiring runner hoping to attain glory on his high school's track team. But his life takes a tragic turn when he witnesses his father getting hit and killed by a driver having a heart attack in a parking lot. Almost immediately, eerie events start happening inside the house. Objects are moved seemingly by themselves from one room to the next. And the realtors who are trying to sell this mountain house are strange, and so is their new neighbor, Martha, and the repairman sent to fix the furnace. It gets really bad when Logan and Naomi return home to find the dining room table candlelit; the police dismiss this as the behavior of bored teenagers.
Well, not all of them can be tied up, but we’ve done our best. Here’s what happened at the end of Netflix’s The Open House. The Premium Plan provides the same as above, though for four supported devices at a time, with content displaying in Ultra HD. That night, it is revealed that there is someone else lurking in the home. One day, Naomi and Logan find that their home has been broken into and someone has set up a candlelit dinner on the table, but the police find nothing. Unable to afford a hotel, mother and son are forced to remain in the house. During the open house days on Sunday, Naomi and Logan are required to leave the property at breakfast and return after 5 p.m. Objects are moved or disappear, the house phone rings but nobody speaks, the pilot to the hot water tank repeatedly gets shut off, and there are unexplained noises.
The way the movie ended made me convinced there will be a sequel, but unfortunately, The Open House ticks genre boxes but has a watery story backing it. During the day, Lila disappears, while David maintains the house. He lets Alice out of the crawlspace to eat and use the bathroom.
An unidentified man, dubbed the "Evil Boots", knocks Logan unconscious, pours water over him and leaves him to the harsh winter elements while he goes after Naomi. Naomi is horrified to discover photos of her, and Logan, sleeping in their beds. Logan wakes and finds that all phones have had their SIM cards removed and snapped when he attempts to call 911 for help.
The entire film is built with clues and suspects, left and right. But at the end of the day, none of the clues meant anything! The killer is just some random dude and may be headed to another open house for a sequel that may or may not ever happen.
Check out our guide to Open House Chicago sites to check out in 2023. The performance by Dylan Minnette is almost a replica of his performance in 13 Reasons Why. You sense the character has a similar background. The performances are not bad, it is just easy to observe that particular aspect. The Open House blatantly has suspense issues as well. The jump scares are not well timed and it feels plagued with filler scenes to get to the core objective.
When he goes upstairs to call 911, David kills him, but not before the dispatcher indicates the police are on the way. With The Open House, you are transported from one odd situation to another with the main conceit of the film being the idea that open houses are weird. Think about it; you open your doors for pretty much anyone to come in and wander through the place that you’re living in. This is also usually done while you aren’t even there. Cue the infuriating sequence that sees the killer remove Logan’s contacts and chase him through the woods into the morning, and concludes with Logan’s strangulation. And goes about his merry business to seemingly do it again to another open house.
Upon moving into the beautiful home, Naomi and Logan encounter their elderly neighbor, Martha, who behaves strangely, and Chris, a pleasant store clerk. The project is described only as an original story that Galluppi developed and brought to Raimi and team. No word on a plot or who all will be producing, as it’s early days here.
